Alhaji Mohammed Bukar At The Opening Ceremony Of The 23rd Meeting Of The  National Council On Works

Opening Remarks by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (Works and Housing Sectors) at NAF Conference Center on Monday 17th July, 2017

PROTOCOL

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 23rd Meeting of the National Council on Works being organized by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing with the theme “Adequate Traffic Signage - An Essential Key for Highways Infrastructure, Safety and Comfort”.

2.    The Meeting of the National Council on Works provides a forum in which stakeholders in the Works Sector deliberate issues concerning the road sector with a view to coming up with decisions on how to solve problems associated  with the construction and maintenance of highways/roads in Nigeria.  This year’s theme addresses the need for adequate traffic signage on our roads in order to ensure the safety and comfort of road users. 

3.    The 23rd Meeting of the National Council on Works begins today with the first Plenary Session which involves the meetings of Directors of Works (federal and states) under the Chairmanship of the Directors, Highways Planning and Development, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing. The Meeting shall continue tomorrow. I wish to implore all participants to contribute meaningfully as the discussion on this session will play a vital role in subsequent days of the meeting.

4.    The Meeting of the Permanent Secretaries of Works (federal and States) will hold on Wednesday 19thJuly, 2017 to consider the report of the Directors’ Meeting and to come up with recommendations for consideration by the National Council on Works on Thursday 20th July, 2017.

5.    I urge all participants to come up with ideas and contributions that can help to achieve the goals and objectives of this year’s Council Meeting. That is, to ensure the provision and maintenance of standard and Adequate Traffic Signage on our Highways/Roads for the Safety and Comfort of road users. 

6.    At this juncture, I would like to conclude by wishing you fruitful deliberations and a pleasant stay in Abuja.
